Covid-19 R values by Lower Tier Local Authority Areas

More detailed information on case numbers by Lower Tier Local Authority is available here

The graph below shows R-values plotted against rates per 100 000 of population for the 315 lower tier local authority areas in England.
Top graph breaks numbers down by region. Bottom graph compares the week ending 2 days ago (red) with values one week previously (grey). Red lines represent medians for current week. Grey line is R = 1. Black line is R-value a week ago.

Analysis based on data file released by Public Health England on 12 / 5 / 2022 .
R values for week ending 10 / 5 / 2022

Median value of R for most recent week is 0.9036
95% confidence interval 0.8931 - 0.9177 comparing R values for week ending 10 / 5 / 2022 (red) with that a week before (grey) R values are calculated from reported case numbers using methods described in Grant (2020), assuming a COVID generation time of 5 days. This assumes that testing intensity has remained approximately constant over time.

When rates are low and case numbers are small, sampling effects will produce greater variations in estimated R values - this will be responsible for at least part of the wedge shaped distribution of points on the graph.
